The Problem:

  • The voting public is the major problem.  The voters are uninformed or misinformed and have a low standard of morality in selecting the elected.
  • Too many of our elected and appointed leaders are either ignorant of or choose to ignore our Constitution.
  • Elected officials often vote personal interests before America’s long-term best interest.
  • The tremendous cost of running elections makes the candidate vulnerable to the unscrupulous, powerful and wealthy.
  • Good people hesitate to run for public office because of the intense personal scrutiny
  • The media uses their influence to promote their candidates of choice rather than equal exposure of all candidates.

The Cause:

  • Congress, the only law making body under the constitution, has relinquished its authority and responsibility to the judicial branch and executive branch.
  • Many of the elected leaders stay in office beyond their welcome.
  • Some politicians have sold their soul to special interest groups.
  • Too many lawyers and those trained with a legal mind have been elected and appointed to serve in a capacity creating a conflict of interest.  (i.e. they write and promote legislation that serves the best interest of their clients.  And after leaving office operate under the laws they have helped pass.)
  • Our elected officials are caught up in Washington politics and are mostly out of touch with the long-term best interest of “We the People”.
  • Often the congress has relinquished its authority and responsibility through executive orders to the executive branch.
  • Too much money is required to run for public office, which leads to corruption and discourages quality candidates.
  • Because of the dominance of lawyers in positions of political leadership, and the fraternal relationship between lawyers, judges and politicians, we have become influenced as a people to move from the higher laws of God to the lower laws of man.

      Possible Solutions:

    • Review all departments of government.  Those not found to be constitutional should be eliminated.
    • Do away with all voice votes in both houses of congress.  Require all votes be recorded votes, so that politicians can be held accountable for their actions.
    • Our government must not get involved in politics of foreign countries.
    • Limit legislation session time, which would reduce costs, decrease the passing of unnecessary laws, and increase time with constituents.
    • Each legislative bill should stand on it’s own merits and not be amended by other unrelated issues.
    • Eliminate (make illegal) executive orders.
    • Enforce separation of power called for in the Constitution.
    • Disallow executive written interpretations as signed law.
    • Eliminate judicial law making and require judges to only rule on existing constitutional (not foreign) law.
    • Test all candidates and elected or appointed officials on their knowledge of the Constitution and its preamble, Bill of Rights, and The Declaration of Independence.
    • All gifts and compensations (i.e. speeches, book deals, gifts) should go back into the coffers of the government from which their salary is taken.
    • Implement a merit voting system.  This graduated system would give more voting power to the taxpayer and less to those receiving funds or services.
    • Implement Presidential line item veto.
    • Ban electronic voting.  Enforce tabulation of the votes that is accountable.
